3 LOOKS – Black Dress

My next edition of 3 LOOKS is the simple black dress – an item I think every women has in her wardrobe and if your anything thing like me I have one for each season and then a couple of others thrown in for good measure.

The black dress is such a versatile wardrobe staple and I want to show that just because its a plain all black dess it doesn’t need to be boring. With a few key accessories you can change the look of it very easily.

I’m wearing the black Prairie Dress a recent purchase from Bohemian Traders (fast becoming one of my favourite online retailers). I already have this in white and loved it so much that decided that the black needed to be added to my collection. I do tend to buy different colours in a style be that a t-shirt, jeans or dress when I love it.

This is the look that I wore today to spend the day with my husband in the city for his ongoing search for the perfect tan winter boot. Let’s just say that we were again unsuccessful and the only thing that came out of it was a nice lunch and a couple of sale purchases for me. So win for me but lose for him!

But back to the dress – as this dress is quite stunning on its own I’ve kept it quite simple just adding a faux fur vest (purchased for only $25.00 from DFO Jindalee), a statement necklace (ilyashoneyjewellery) and some brown opened toed booties (RMK Shoes).

I’m a real fan of the tan and black colour combination so for this look I have added a tan leather jacket (from the wardrobe vault) and a pair of tan leather heels. If the weather turned a bit chilly you could easily substitute the tan heels for a pair of boots and add a pair of tights.

Wearing my dress as top, I have been doing this a bit lately. I don’t think any of us have a endless spending budget so I try to think of ways that I can get maximum use out of all pieces in my wardrobe. I have teamed this dress with a pair of drop crotch pants from Miniandmone, the added bonus of a drop crotch is there is a little excess room for hiding excess material. Now I know that drop crotch pants are not for everybody but I think if you choose the right ones they can work well. These ones are great as they are quite a little weight material, so they fall well and don’t stick up in odd places.  – can be an issue, I won’t lie.

I have added a pair of statement heels for Seed Heritage in a contrast colour to offset the all black look. As these are nude they also help elongate my short legs – always a plus in my book.
