COSSIE CONFIDENCE

A few months ago Anita from Sequins and Sands asked me if I wanted to take part in a photo shoot for “Cossie Confidence”.

I’m not going to lie, this did scare the hell out of me. I’m no spring chicken (more like an old duck) and I have many lumps and bumps.

BUT ever since I started Instagram a few years ago I have been pushing myself outside my comfort zone.

So I said yes! And just didn’t overthink it, I just went with the flow.

And boy am I glad I did, it was a day full of fun and laughter. And I got to hang out with some really cool chicks. Two of those fabulous women are below Katrina from Sista with Style and Clair from Clair Seymour (I just have to say this gorgeous girl not only killed it in swimwear but she also did hair and makeup, talk about talented).

So on the day Anita asked me why I wanted to be involved in the shoot.

For me it was an easy question to answer. I want to encourage women to feel confident in their body no matter what shape or size. If, by getting in my swimwear, I can inspire just one woman to do the same then I feel like I’ve achieved something fabulous.

I’m going to be 50 in just under two months and as I get older I seriously care less and less about what people think. I not ‘modelesque’ actually far from it – I’m on the short side (161.5 cm), I have large boobs (which with the start of menopause seem to be getting bigger, as if I need extra!), I carry all my extra weight in my thighs and after carrying 4 children my tummy has never recovered. Now I’m not saying this as a downer on my body, I’m just being honest. It is what it is, but none of that stops me from loving my body or putting it out there (and let me tell you posting photos in togs is really putting it out there 😛 )

I know it sounds a bit cliche, but “Life Really Is Too Short” to be constantly worrying about what people think about you. And I’ll tell you a secret when you are down at the beach playing with your family, kids, grand-kids, etc. in your swimsuit no one cares what you look like. If you exude confidence all they will see is a happy woman having fun with her family. Don’t let your fear stop you from experiencing life.

Below are a couple of photos from the shoot – I picked swimsuits that would give me support in the boob area and ruched across the belly to pull everything in give a streamlined shape. Anita has swimsuits to cater for all sizes, shapes and needs.
