IT COMES IN 3’s – OVERALLS

I’ve been trying to step out of comfort zone with style lately and I’m try a few different trends.

First there was sequins – I bought the below skirt from Zara months ago but hadn’t felt confident enough to wear it.

It just sat in my wardrobe mocking me, until Sunday when I just thought stuff it and put it on and went out.

And I felt fabulous in it!

And then yesterday I pulled out a trend that didn’t think would ever make a resurface – the bum bag or fanny pack.

I kept the base very neutral and plain with a white linen dress and was really happy with how it came together.

I had a lot of positive comments and a few negative. But that’s ok different strokes for different folks. And to be honest if we all loved the same thing it would get very very boring.

So I thought while I’m on a roll I’d go for the hat trick and try the overalls trend.

To keep these in my comfort zone I’ve stayed with a plain black pair from Sportsgirl. I’m not quite ready for a bold print, I think baby steps are the key.

I think there are a couple of tricks in getting this to work as you reach your 50’s

1. One is the fit. There is a fine line between too tight and too loose, you want something that doesn’t cling but still gives you a little shape. I achieved this with these by going up a size.

2. The top underneath, try to keep it either a little fitted or pretty and a little classy.

3. Try adding a belt, this gives extra shape and if you feel the crotch is a little low it will pull it up.

I decided to style these in 3 ways to show versatility – casual | work | date night.

Casual

This would have to be my favourite way to wear the overalls – with a striped tee and flats. This is such a great relaxed off duty look and one that I will be trotting out regularly over the coming months.

Now I just to focus on these cute Ziera flats – I’ve been looking for a casual slide as an alternative to thongs. There are it super comfortable with the cork base and the leather will age beautifully with time. What I love about these is that I can tighten to get the right fit. I have quite narrow feet and in the past have struggle to find similar flats that I could wear and wouldn’t overpower my feet and make it look like I was wearing flippers.

WORK

I kept this very simple and will wear it monochrome for work. I added a polka dots shirt that I already had in my wardrobe, a simple pair of black heels and for a pop of colour a red handbag. Easy dressing that is work appropriate and also comfortable.

DATE NIGHT

Now here is where I had a little fun.

I’ve had this super cute OTS top for a couple of weeks and have been waiting for the perfect bottoms to wear it with. Who can resist Strawberries 🍓 I sure can’t.

To combat the frilly top I have worn a belt to give me a little more shape and added my favourite killer red heels.
