It’s supposed to be spring and in Brisbane this usually means beautiful sunny days with temperatures in the mid 20’s. Instead we have had a week of solid rain and its actually been chilly. Hubby complained that winter had returned.
Now while I’m so thankful for the rain as I know that the farmers are desperate for it (just hope that some of it has made its way to them).
It has made taking photos of this gorgeous newly released Birdsnest Florence Maxi Dress extremely difficult.
I ended up getting up at 5.30am this morning to do hair and make up and go take some photos – for someone who is not a morning person this shows how desperate I really was.
Hubby is worth his weight in gold he happily (or that may be a bit of an exaggeration) got up with me and took my photos before he had to leave for work.
And this dress was worth the early morning wake up!
For me Off the Shoulder Dresses announce the start of SPRING – when the shoulders come out to play.
So I was so excited to share the Birdsnest Florence Maxi Dress from one of my favourite Birdsnest brands BOHO BIRD for our latest LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT post. This own label just taps into both Bev Iris May Style and my love of boho – think floaty, floral prints and whimsical styles. The navy polka print with the white edging has a gorgeous romantic spring feel to it, it conjures up images of garden parties, cucumber sandwiches and cupcakes.
Navy is such a great colour for spring, its softer on the complexion than its close colour cousin black. But like black is so easy to accessorize with – it works with nearly every colour shoe in your wardrobe.
This dress would the perfect dress to wear for any special occasion – a wedding, a ladies lunch/high tea, a day at the races or with a pair of kicks for a picnic in the park.
It has a quite large frill which is quite flattering and it also hides any lumps or bumps around the middle. The high low hem I love because maxi dresses can sometimes be slightly overwhelming for a vertically challenged gal so showing off a little bit of ankle and leg gives an illusion of length.
It also has an elasticised waist with a cute little white tassel belt, having an hourglass shape I’m very partial to belts as they help to give me a bit of shape. You could swap out the white tassel belt and replace with a coloured belt – a red thin belt or wide tan belt both come to mind.
Styling tips – I have worn this dress with a few different colour and type of shoes from sandals | pumps | kicks. I think it works perfectly with all three and suits a multitude of occasions. For accessories I have gone with natural tones so that the dress and shoe combo shines.
