LONG & THE SHORT OF IT – BOHEMIAN TRADERS BLUESFEST

It’s been a couple of weeks between posts I had all these great intentions of writing a couple as soon as I got home from the States but I didn’t count on how badly I would be hit with jet lag that first week back.

I have flown oversea’s a few times but the longest flight I’ve ever had was 13 hours. The flights (yes there were 3 of them) from New York to Brisbane with time for transfers thrown in took a full 24 + hours. Leaving in the afternoon on the Saturday and not arriving home till the Monday morning meant we lost a whole day.

And I’m yet to master the art of sleeping well on a plane – if you have any hints please pass them my way, we are planning on going back next year so tips would be most welcome.

I will share more of our holiday in a later post, I just have to try and sort through all the photos first.

But back to today’s post – its really no secret that Bev and I love Bohemian Traders. They always seem to nail classic cuts with a fabulous bohemian twist.

And this really describes the pieces that we chosen to feature today perfect and the other exciting thing is a couple of these pieces are currently on sale.

As usual just a little styling advice for my fellow shorties

  • Indigo Wide Leg Jean – now I knew that this would require altering, to make these jeans work for all leg lengths they had to be made long. I cut about 4 cm off to get the length that I wanted. I intend to wear these with heels so wanted them to end just about the ground to give me a long line and illusion of longer legs. I say this every time but please don’t be afraid to alter it seriously on took me 15 minutes to get the length I wanted.
  • Indigo Wide Leg Jean – I purchased these last year October before my China trip and they have become staples that I wear nearly once a week. As with the wide leg jeans I did alter these but unlike the wide leg I just cut off and left the hem raw as I like the slightly frayed look.

Outfit 1

Ok I have to say I’m a little obsessed with all these pieces.

Hubby loved them too he felt like they had such a fabulous retro vibe.

I have been wanting to try these Indigo Wide Leg Jean ever since they dropped and they are exactly what I hoped they would be.

Now if you are a curvy gal that has a waist, think hourglass shape then these are for you, they nip you in at the waist but then they fall from thighs (this is wear I carry most of my extra weight) which gives a great streamlined look. Also by keeping the length long and wearing a heel you gain what appears a few extra inches in the leg.

I do have to say that jeans have NO stretch in them so you will need to size up. I did try my usual size 30″ or size 12 and while I could get them up there was no pulling up the zip.

Think back to the 80’s when you would lay on the bed and use a coathanger to pull up your jeans and you will get the picture. Going up a size was the trick for the perfect fit – I think we have to not get hung up on the size of a piece of clothing just wear what fits not what size you think you should be.

I have such a soft spot for well cut blazers, they are always a winter staple in my wardrobe and the one piece that I will invest in every winter.

The navy colour of this one means it will be extremely versatile and it goes perfectly with denim – my favourite way to wear a blazer, just add either a tee or a pretty blouse and this will work for a multitude of occasions.

This blazer is fully lined, I would say its pretty true to size I’m wearing my usual size 12.

Now Bev didn’t take up her jeans for any of the photos but she may take them up slightly in the future.

Outfit 2

I felt in the first outfit by wearing the wide legs jeans with the blazer and tee you create quite a dressy look but just by swapping out the wide leg jeans for the skinnies and adding a pair of kicks these pieces take on a much more casual weekend look.

This outfit would be the perfect base for a travel wardrobe comfortable, smart and a great neutral blue and white colour palette, each piece easy to mix and match with others already in your wardrobe.

And if you are going travelling I can not recommend the Frankie 4 JACKIE Sneaker enough – these came with me to the States and if you have ever been to New York you will know that you do an incredible amount of walking. I wore these most days and they definitely saved my soles.

The longsleeved tee is the winter version of the popular swing summer tee – this has a relaxed fit, made from stretch jersey and a higher neckline great for combating the cooler weather.

Outfit 3

The Palermo Blouse is very flattering shape for a gal with curves.

The smallest part of most of us is the space just under the boobs and when you emphasis this you give yourself beautiful shape.

With a size 12 F chest sometimes I need to size up to get the room I need in the chest but this top does have a decent amount of room so I could stay with my usual size 12.

This top is made from a beautiful delicate polka dots print fabric and is fully lined, it has hook eye closure so you can choose how much cleveage you would like to show. I have kept all of them fastened for these looks. This top has a side zip making it easy to get on.

The Palermo top has such beautiful scalloped edges around the arms and bottom so I have chosen to just place the blazer on my shoulders or carry so that you don’t miss the details.

Outfit 4

The skinny jean is always a favourite of mine, I think its one of the most flattering shapes on any women. Quite often we think that a straight leg is the more flattering shape but the skinny shows off the bottom part of a women’s leg which is the smallest giving a nicer line.

I would say that these jeans are not a super skinny fit – they follow the line of the leg but aren’t skin tight add a heel and you get a dressy look.

The way that the Palermo Blouse kicks out around the tummy is perfect for hiding any problem you have with that area. I’ve had 4 children and my tummy is never going to be perfectly flat ever again so I love this as it means no suck in undies are needed.

Both these pieces work perfectly on both our shapes – apple and hour glass. Bev wears the jeans unaltered.

It is always fun when we choose pieces to feature on our LONG and the SHORT of it posts – we try to find pieces that will work for curvy gals no matter if they are a apple, hourglass, column or pear.

We started these posts as curvy gals of different heights to show how clothes would look on our shapes. We hope that by doing these we are helping in a little way for you to know how clothes would work for you.
