I really feel so lucky to be able to do these LATSOI blog posts with the gorgeous Bev Iris May Style, for a start we get to wear the most beautiful pieces from fabulous Australian brands and show you how they suit our different shapes.
But what I also love is the late night text conversions and laughter that ensures from those conversations the night before as we try and get our posts finished. Bev is usually much more organised than I am and already has most of it written and only needs to put some finishing touches.
Me on the other hand not so organised. I have always been a ‘fly by the seat of my pants’ kinda of gal (also I do work full time so I’m slightly time poor) and I do my best work when I’m under a deadline. Drove my parents nuts when I was a teenager with last minute assignments the late nights, the stress and tears that would quite often come with it.
Last week instead of blogging I was looking for GIF’s on procrastination to send to Bev at about 10.30pm without one word having been written. I ended up finishing at 2am, I’m determined to be in bed before midnight tonight but …… we will see.
Now I thought that I would do a bit of a hybrid blog post today.
I’m combing a Long and The Short Of It post with a Spring Racing one. As soon as I saw these pieces I knew that they would be perfect for a day at the races.
The black and white outfit just screams Derby Day to me, hello black and white polka dots!
All I had to do to make this outfit race day ready is to add a white blazer, straw boater and red heels and I’m ready.
Now the maxi dress for me is a bit of a different take on what would normally be considered spring racing attire but I do love to be a bit left of centre, I’m an Aquarian and we do sometimes like to march to a different drum.
The usual race day outfits don’t always appeal to me as they are not my usual style a bit too structured and perfect, something that I am definitely not. I like to be dressy but a little more relaxed so this maxi with it gorgeous flowing lines and floral print is no brainer for me.
For race day look I have just added a pair of tan wedges (no problems with sinking into the grass with these shoes) and a cute straw bag with matching pom poms. You could also add a cute floral head piece to finish the look if you wanted to.
I’m also going to show you how these pieces can be worn both for work and casually – as I always say I do love versatility in my clothes.
Our statics
Bev is a classic pear shape while I’m more of an hourglass shape and we have 10cm height difference. This can make a huge difference in how clothes can fit.
I have listed our heights, shoe size and clothing size – for this post we have stayed with our usual sizes apart from the bodysuit where I have sized up to a large.
BEV – Iris May Style
- Height – 5′ 8″ or 172cm
- Shoe size – 9/40
- Clothing size – for all these Birdsnest pieces size 14 or Large
ME – Style Loving 2
- Height – 5’3″ or 161.5 cm (the 0.5 cm always counts)
- Shoe size – 7/38
- Clothing size – for all these Birdsnest pieces size 12 or Medium
Now why these posts work so well for us is that we have a very similar style aesthetic but we do find times where we differ in what we love the most. This post is a classic case of it, while we both love these two outfits we have different favourites.
For me its the polka dot skirt and body suit – I’m so in love I have already ordered both pieces in black and hopefully they will arrive by the weekend as I can’t wait to wear.
The reason that I love these pieces is that they suit my more hourglass shape – I’m by no means what you would consider little I have a lot of curves, hello size 12G boobs and thanks to menopause and chocolate a more rounded middle.
About 10 years ago the extra weight I’m now carrying would have made me run to cover up but now I try and embrace my curves all of the lumps and bumps (and there are many). Covering up with layers can just make me look like the Michelin man.
The smallest part of my waist is just under my boobs so wearing something a little more fitted gives me a much better silhouette.
For Bev her favourite of the two outfits is the maxi – I knew this would be the case as she has been lusting after this dress for weeks.
It ticks all her boxes for her pear shape it doesn’t have a defined waist, it has a fabulous v neckline (us gals with a generous bust love a v neckline its the most flattering one) and the maxi length is perfect for height.
Oh and its absolutely gorgeous on her! As is her gorgeous NEW hair colour.

The Rell Circle Skirt $159.95* arrived and I fell in love instantly!!
I seriously can’t put into words how much I love this skirt its fun, flirty, polka dot and monochrome. Oh did I forget to mention it has pockets – I know that just tipped it over into the perfection category for me.
The skirt is made from weightless cotton so even though there is a lot of fabric it doesn’t cause it to have too much bulk. No issues of this looking like a tutu.
It is fastened with buttons at the side but it also has tassel drawstring that you can tighten to get the perfect fit.
We’ve worn the skirt with The Body Guard In White $59.95* this bodysuit gives a great streamlined look, with the skirt being full you need to keep the top simple.
This will be a great basic layering piece in any wardrobe, its lovely and light with a great scooped neckline and you can wear as we have below under a blazer without adding any extra bulk.

First look is one we both love we just added our White Bohemian Traders Blazer $189.00 (this piece gets a huge workout in both our wardrobes) and a killer pair of red heels – Witchery couple of years old.

Now for this look all I have done is taken off the blazer, added a pair of tan heels Frankie 4 EDDiE heels $219.95 * and a straw boater and this would make it perfect for a Sunday lunch.

I will say I was really surprised by how much I loved this third look – all I did was change the heels for a pair of white Kmart Lace Up Flatforms $20.00 and added a cute little bag. If the weather cooled you could also add a denim jacket to complete the look. Brogues are not my usual go to shoe to wear with a pretty skirt but I think this works so well.

FLOATY FLORALS

The Backless Maxi Dress in Paradiso $219.95* is stunning.
I will be honest I did worry about how this dress would work for me as the back is very low and I cannot every go braless EVER!
I needn’t have worried the solution to this was easy I just added a white bandeau that I already had in my wardrobe. The white is a great contrast against the blue and with the buttons done up you only really see it at the back. The other option would be to just wear a dark coloured bra if you are happy to just show the back of it.
Now Bev is able to wear gel stick on bra that fits up to a D cup (I won’t lie I’m slightly jealous of this fact) so the fact that this is backless is not an issue.
My other concern being short was the length but I added a pair of wedges and it was perfect. For the second look the addition of a belt made it perfect to wear flats with.

I will apologise for all the swishy photos below I just couldn’t help myself it is perfect swishing dress.
Look one is just a pair of neutral wedges (these are oldies) and a cute straw bag from last summer from Feather and Noise – the print of this dress is so gorgeous you really don’t need any the dress stands on its on perfectly.

For the second look I undid the top button to show a little bit more of the white bandeau, then I added a leather belt and a pair of tan flats both these pieces I picked up on my holiday to the US earlier in the year – this makes it such an easy weekend and holiday look.
