LONG & THE SHORT OF IT – BOHEMIAN TRADERS

So it’s our second LONG and the SHORT of it post.

We were so blown away by all the wonderful feedback that we received in our last one we are so excited to share this weeks brand Bohemian Traders.

Now anyone that follows Bev Iris May Style or myself know how much we LOVE everything Bohemian Traders so it was the perfect choice for our second post.

I think there is a little boho in all of us and BT caters for that gal perfectly, I always find they have the perfect amount of Boho in their clothes.

For this post we were actually able to work our schedules so that we could take our photos together.

We met up last Saturday morning and Bev’s husband Jonny was our fabulous patient lensmen and my hubby Rob played the part of artist director.

I think he got a real buzz out of telling us what to do, we may have created a monster.

It was a morning full of lots of laughter, hurriedly changing in cars for each shot, while the men sat talking. Bev did discover that I am quite a quick change artist – hubby has quite a short attention span so I have learned that I need to be very quick when we take blog photos or he’ll get over it.

I do have to say that we may have had a little too much fun and were a little too relaxed in some photos – Jazz hands even made an appearance.

We decided to wear similar height shoes in each look and stand next to each other so that you can clearly see the height difference between us. As I said last LATSOI post photos, can be very deceiving. The whole reason for these posts is so that you can see if items will work for you, height and size wise.

We picked four Bohemian Traders pieces to feature and ones that would be very versatile in anyone’s wardrobe.

We also included the Houndstooth Blazer as this is a piece that Bev and I already had in our wardrobes.

BEV – Iris May Style

Height – 5′ 8″ or 172cm
Shoe size – 9/40
Clothing size – for all these Bohemian Traders pieces size 14 except for the Striped tee which is a medium

ME – Style Loving 2

Height – 5’3″ or 161.5 cm (the 0.5 cm always counts)
Shoe size – 7/38
Clothing size – for all these Bohemian Traders pieces size 12 except for the wide leg black pants which are a size 10

As usual just a little styling advice for my fellow shorties

Don’t be afraid to make alterations to clothes to make them fit, especially pants. You can miss out on a lot of great pieces if you are too scared to take up a hem. If the thought of cutting off the hem freaks you out then I’m sure you have a friend that is handy with a sewing machine or if not take them to your local alternations lady (its worth every penny).
Wide Leg Pant – I’ve loved these from afar ever since they were released but worried that the wide leg wouldn’t work for my height. This was easily rectified by cutting off about 3 – 4 cms – it honestly only took me 10 minutes to make them the perfect length.
Skinny High Waisted Jean – I love the whole raw hem trend that is in at the moment and it makes it so easy and quick to alter them. All you need is a sharp pair of scissor, I cut mine and then just throw in the dryer for a half hour to make the hem look a little bit more frayed.
A heel can be a short gals best friend great for creating height and leg length.
When wearing flats just make sure you can see some skin between the bottom of the pants and the top of the shoe. When you don’t see any skin it can tend to cut you off and make your legs look shorter.

We have come up with four outfits from the four pieces with a BONUS fifth look with the blazer – I have grouped the looks into WEEKEND CASUAL and DATE NIGHT (but these would also be appropriate for workplace).

You will have seen me wear these skinnies on more that one occasion, I purchased them last year and love the fit and the distressing on the knee. For me just the right amount.

Now let’s focus on the striped tee this is very relaxed fit – I could have gone done a size but really wanted to embrace the relaxed feel.

This is a real winter wardrobe staple so easy to throw on and out the door, which suits my lazy girl personality to a T.

Look 2

I just love this look, works so well on both heights. Now as I said above I altered these pants to make them work for me.

You could easily add a denim jacket to this look if you needed some added warmth. I will be taking both these pieces with me when I go to the US in a couple of weeks, perfect travel outfit as they are both comfortable.

Both looks we have worn our Frankie 4 kicks – the whiteness of these gives a great fresh sporty luxe vibe to the outfits.

DATE NIGHT

Look 3

Candy Striped Shirt – $149.00 |High Waisted Skinny Jean in Dark Wash – $139.00 | Both Bev and I are wearing old red heels, Karen – Witchery & Bev – Mimco

As soon as I put on this shirt I fell in love – its made from 100% cotton, has a great winter weight to it and is extremely striking to wear.

This has a high low hem with quite a high side split so that it makes it easy to do a half or full tuck if you want to.

It has a tie collar, we have left it open for this look and for me as a gal with a generous bust this would be my preferred option but we have styled it tied below so that you can see what this looks like.

Look 4

A little about the fit of these pants – they have a lot of stretch in them so when deciding on what size you get you just need to think about what sort of fit you want.

I sized down to a size 10 to get a more fitted look around the waist but Bev stayed with her usual size as she preferred them to be slightly a little less fitted.

I really wanted to wear heels that showed a lot of foot as I said before this creates the illusion of length.

Look 5

I bought the Houndstooth Blazer as soon as it was released – it is my investment piece of the season and it has already had multiple wears. It is a fabulous piece that is easily added to an outfit.

This could actually be added to all of these looks but we decided to just show you how it would look with the striped tee and jeans look. We just kept our sneakers on for this look but we could have easily have swapped out the sneakers for heeled boots which would instantly dress up this look.
