POLKA DOTS THE NEW STRIPE

I know there are a lot of us out there that are very very addicted to the humble stripe in all its forms.

But I’m just going to put it out there ‘Is the polka dot becoming the new stripe?’

Lately I have found myself more and more drawn towards the polka dots. This may be due to the fact that it’s everywhere but I don’t know if it’s just that.

I’m not quite sure why I’m drawn towards it but wearing polka dots just seems to bring a little bit fun to an outfit.

The words of that old song always spring to mind.

It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini
That she wore for the first time today.
An itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini
So in the locker she wanted to stay.
Two, three, four, stick around we’ll tell you more!

Let me just clarify I’m not that old I wasn’t born when this song came out but I remember it from watching Young Talent Time as a child.

Also I think polka dots have a real feminine edge to them, they look fabulous in dress form and work perfectly for any special occasion or a day at the races.

I do think that stripes will always hold a strong place in my style heart but at the moment I’m seriously infatuated with polka dots in all their forms.

So I’m sharing my latest acquisition below a gorgeous dress from You Rock Style that would be perfect for the Spring Racing Season, as well as a few of my recent polka dot outfits from the blog and Instagram.

And then just because you can never have too many spots I’m sharing a few of my favourites from my ‘Polka Dot Wish List’.

You Rock Style Charlotte Dress $89.95 this is only left in limited sizes but don’t despair Feather & Noise have the same dress just called Victoria (I sized up in this to a size 14 and glad I did as I needed the space around the waist) | Zara Satin Court Shoes with Bow $69.95 | Clutch last season from Seed | Uberkate Everyday Cocktail Rings in Lapis $195.00 and Amethyst $195.00

Ok I officially may be obsessed with monochrome polka dots and also this dress.

It ticks all my boxes

  • It has a wrap top, which provides a fabulous neckline for the busty gal
  • Nips in under the boobs, for me and a lot of women the smallest part on the torso.
  • Great arm coverage – now while I’m on a mission this summer to embrace my tuckshop lady arms, I do feel more comfortable with them covered.
  • Midi length – flattering length and allows me to show off killer heels
  • Faux wrap with side zip – means no flashing if it gets windy

I purchased this dress from You Rock Style it was part of their Spring Racing Edit – I think I may have to convince hubby to take me to the races so I can wear it.

Cinori Alesia Wedges * | Feather & Noise Bag no longer available

Now I know not everyone shares my love of sky high heels so I thought I’d show you how fabulous this dress looks with a fun pair of wedges and if you are intending to wear this dress to the races you won’t have to worry about sinking into the grass.

You Rock Style Stella Skirt – Red Spotty $59.95 (I size up to a 14 as I didn’t want any cling) & J’Adore Tee $49.95 (wearing sz 12) | Kmart Flatform Shoes $20.00 | second outfit Witchery shoes & Hunt & Kelly both from a couple of years ago

This whole outfit I called ‘Minnie Mouse Chic’ when I wore it as it just gave off vibes of MM to me.

And the second outfit is what I actually wore to work today with pieces that I already had in my wardrobe. Classic pieces are worth investing in they will be worn again and again – white top (this one would have to be 3 yrs old) and a pair of heels similar age.

Birdsnest Florence Maxi Dress $169.95 – this dress Bev Irismaystyle and I wore for a recent Long & The Short of It post. Read it here.

I told you I was obsessed with monochrome polka dot. This skirt from Bohemian Traders is magnificent.

It was part of another Long & The Short Of It Post – read it here.
