Since starting my Blog a couple of years ago I have been given so many wonderful opportunities that I have just had to pinch myself to make sure they are real.
Last week Wednesday was one of those pinch myself moments and I have bruises to prove it!
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival with the most gorgeous ladies – Bev from Iris May Style and Beckie and Sophie from Two Corporate Girls to see Sacha Drakes new collection hit the runway. It was full of gorgeous prints and the most beautiful fabrics everything that I have come to expect from Sacha Drake. I fell in love with the most gorgeous white and navy polka dot off the shoulder dress.
I was also super excited to wear a couple of pieces from the current collection. If you know anything about Sacha Drake you will know that her clothes are made from beautiful fabrics that are cut to fit and flatter a woman’s figure.
If you look through her website you will see that there are little icons under each piece to show what body shape they will best suit. The classifications are the five most common body shapes – Hourglass, Column, Pear, Apple and Pregnant. If you are not quite sure what shape you are just read through the description on each shape and choose the one that best suits you body – you may find you are a combination of a couple.
For me I’m quite a standard Hourglass – I have a full bust (a 12 E to be exact), a small waist and shapely thighs. I find that the most flattering clothes for my shape is one that has a v-neck without too many frills or flounces, that nips in at the waist and skims over my thighs.
So when deciding what to wear I made sure to make full use of the body shape icons.
First was the decision to choose separates instead of a dress – a dress is quite often my go to when looking for something to wear for a special occasion. But I have found that quite often separates are the perfect solution to cater for my hourglass shape as sometimes I can be a different shape up the top (usually because of my boobs) to my bottom half.
I couldn’t resist the gorgeous Totto Ruffle Fit and Flare A-line Skirt. I cannot rave enough about this skirt it is just beautiful. It has the most amazing layers and frills and has been so well designed that it doesn’t add unnecessary bulk around the tummy.
I have had 4 children so my tummy is not and to be honest it never has been very flat. I have wobbly bits that this skirt hides and disguises and gives me a such a streamline shape.
The skirt has a side zip with a fitted wide waist band that has a nice amount of stretch this makes it extremely comfortable to wear. The body of the skirt is made from a gorgeous stripe fabric that is exclusive to Sacha Drake and means you won’t be seeing it elsewhere.
This skirt would be perfect to wear to the Spring Racing Festival, a wedding or any special event you have coming up. It also looks beautiful with a plain white shirt tucked in and a statement necklace – one of the gorgeous Sacha Drake ladies wore it styled this way to the MBFF.
To go with this skirt I needed a top that was more streamlined to offset the ruffles so the Joy Wrap Stretch Jersey Top in Navy was the perfect combination.
I have spoken many times about the benefits of wrap dresses and as I believe that they flatter all body shapes and create a beautiful silhouette on a woman’s body. The Joy Wrap top has all the same benefits but in a top form, this piece is so versatile and while it worked beautifully with my skirt on Wednesday night it would also look fabulous with your favourite pair of blue jeans.
The other huge plus for me is the fluted sleeves as I get older I do quite often prefer to have some arm coverage (hide those arm wings), just gives me a little bit more confidence.
The stretch jersey fabric skims and doesn’t cling and has a amazing amount of stretch so it is easy to adjust to get the perfect fit.
Joy Wrap Fluted Sleeve V-neck Stretch Jersey Top in Navy $169.00 (I’m wearing a size 10 but a size 12 would have given a little bit more room around the chest) | Totto Ruffle Fit and Flare A-line Skirt in Navy White Stripe Print $279.00 (wearing a size 12 – I’m 161 cm and this hit just below my knees if you are taller it will hit you either on your knee or just above) | Frankie 4 ALANA Heels in Blush $219.95 – I wore these all night and I had no issues with sore feet or blisters.
