My safety zone has always been blacks, whites and neutrals but over the last 6 months I have been trying to embrace more colour and pattern.
And guess what I’m loving it!
I won’t lie I still automatically gravitate to black, white or neutral when trying to pick something to wear – its a habit of a lifetime I’m trying to break.
Every time I wear print I feel happy and confident.
Something that I have discovered about print is that is great for discussing those bits I don’t love – a less than flat tummy (I call it my mum tum and after carry 4 children it really is a badge of honour but I do prefer to not have it on show), generous thighs and bust.
Now don’t get me wrong I have a great relationship with my body but I’m sure I’m not alone with there being some parts that I some times want to skim over and disguise and print does that for me.
If you are hesitant to wear an all over print here are a couple of things I follow that helps me:
- Keep accessories simple don’t cause a pattern overload.
- I keep my shoes in neutral tones – this way my dress, top or skirt can be the focus of the outfit.
- A plain blazer or jacket can be a great way to tone down an outfit if you find all over pattern too much.
These are not steadfast rules but have helped me to feel confident in wearing pattern and not have it overpower me – maybe they’ll help you too.
